ONE 6-week visit postpartum is not enough
The American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology recommends all birthing people to have a pelvic floor physical therapy assessment in the first 3 months.

Dr. Melissa not only specializes in your pelvic floor & return to exercise recovery, but she will also help you transition into motherhood with better nutrient stores & understanding your postpartum fertility.
Our healthcare system does not prioritize taking care of mom postpartum. ONE 6-week follow up appointment with your OB or midwife does not meet the needs of a new mom.
At this visit, you will likely find out that everything has returned to normal, and you will be given the green light to return to sex, exercise, and to get on birth control.
What often happens is that our patients are so excited to find out this good news, so they try to run or go back to their favorite exercise & experience heaviness, leakage, or pelvic pain. They start to question if this is really that big of a deal because the doctor said they were fine.

The 6-week mark postpartum should be the beginning of your rehab journey, not the end
What is usually missing from postpartum advice is a comprehensive and holistic rehab and recovery plan.

If you have not been able to reconnect with your core and pelvic floor, the foundational strength and flexibility can be a missing piece of your recovery.

By addressing your rehab with a solid foundation, you'll have an easier time returning to weight lifting, jumping, running, intimacy, and taking care of your kids without pain.

This is exactly what Dr. Melissa helps her moms with at Louisiana Pelvic Health. By combining pelvic floor physical therapy directed feedback with appropriate exercise to your level, you will heal faster with fewer roadblocks along your postpartum journey.
